- Vet Visits ... Try taking a clicker and tempting treats along when you go to the clinic. As soon as you walk in the door, click and give your pup a treat. Click and treat every time something new happens, such as entering the exam room, or when you need to hold the puppy's attention during the examination. And be sure to click and treat when the pup behaves. You'll be amazed how fast your dog will learn that the veterinary hospital is good place to be!
- Heads Last ...When introducing a puppy to a crate or exercise pen, pick the dog up and put him in backwards. Offer a treat and lots of praise. Place the puppy only halfway in at first, and repeat three times. You'll find that crate introduction is easier if the puppy is looking out instead of in!
- Two Minute Training ...Frequent short training sessions are often better than one long session. Practice "waits" while brushing your teeth and "recalls" when watering the plants!
- Quick Fix ... Out for a walk and suddenly discover your pup's collar needs adjustment? While holding the dog by the collar, unsnap the leash and thread the snap end through the leash handle. Now, place the resulting loop over the pups head and voila, you can safely and easily take the collar off and adjust!
